2015 in Review

Hey readers! Well, this being the last day of 2015, I thought I’d reflect a little on this past year and review it a little, as well as set some goals for 2016!

This year was definitely different for me given the birth of my baby girl! We got pregnant in January, so that didn’t allow for much racing opportunities throughout the year! However, I did still get some racing in, and did quite well in them considering my pregnancies!

In January, I ran and placed 1st overall female in the Grant Park Trail Run and I also did quite well in one of 3 indoor bike time trials I did!

Starting to get pretty tired!

In February, just before finding out I was pregnant, I PRed at the indoor bike time trial distance! IMG_1769

In April, I was registered for a marathon, but I dropped down to the half marathon since I was 12 weeks pregnant at that point. I still managed to place 3rd in my age group though, and was very pleased with that! DSC08237

In May, I ran my first ever DOG 5k with one of my dogs! I was 18 weeks pregnant at that point, but amazingly we still got 2nd place female (but 1st place with a dog!). durango start

In June, I was still running pretty well, so I did a 5 mile race and placed in my age group again! sugarcreek

July and August, I ran 5ks with our foster kids as a family. I was significantly slower at this point, but still enjoyed myself! IMG_2371

I didn’t race in September or October, but I did keep up with my running, biking, and swimming right up until the week I gave birth! I biked the day before I went into labor and walked the morning I went into labor! DSC08333

November was spent recovering from labor, but I was able to get active again quite quickly with walking days after delivery, running 3 weeks after, biking 5 weeks after, and swimming 6 weeks after!

In December, I made my postpartum racing debut with a 5k run (placing 1st in my age group), and another indoor bike time trial!

Pretttttty tired after my time trial!!

Whew, that was a tiring year! Again, not as glamorous racing-wise as my previous years, but it was the best year of all because I grew and gave birth to our beautiful baby girl!! So, what do I have planned for 2016? Well, nothing huge again. I want to make sure I’m prioritizing my family while still setting a good example of fitness (but not taxing them too much by doing crazy races…..yet). :) So here are my goals for 2016:

1. PR in the marathon (April). This will be hard, because I only have 4 months to train, but I’m going to try!!

2. Compete in at least one “splash ‘n dash” race

3. PR in the Indoor Bike Time Trial. I have one in January and one in February, so two chances there

4. Compete in one 70.3 (no hopes of PR-ing; I just want to do another one)

5. Compete in at least one race each month AND place in my age group each time.

So there are my goals for 2016!

What goals do you have for this next year?
