The Anti-Acid Diet

I recently read Hammer Nutrition’s latest edition of Endurance News. In it, they talked about the Anti-Acid diet. They talked about how acidic foods, low in pH can make you tired, fatigued, depressed, and not perform your best. You may remember, I was wondering why I was feeling so tired the last few weeks. I couldn’t come up with any reason, but when I read this article, it seemed to make sense to me!

Common acid-forming foods are: breads, bagels, cakes, donuts, cookies, candy, cereal, chocolate, ice cream, meats, pancakes, pizza, and rice. Ummmmmmmm I eat ALL of those……regularly.

So, the article went on to explain that you should instead eat foods that are alkaline-forming foods. Examples of those foods are: almonds, apples, asparagus, avocado, bananas, broccoli, carrots, mango, onions, peaches, potatoes, tomatoes, and whey. I eat a lot of these too, but potentially not enough. And I could even go as far to say that the days I feel most tired are probably the days I eat the donuts, bread, and chocolates :) SO, naturally as soon as I read this article, I immediately stuffed my face with mangos :) IMG_0947[1]I’m not going to go all out and completely eliminate the “acid-forming” foods from my diet. I think if I did, I wouldn’t have much else left to eat! BUT, I am going to try and be more conscientious about the foods I’m eating, and try and eat more alkaline-forming foods! Wish me luck :)

How about you? Does your diet contain a lot of acid-forming foods? I was shocked when I saw how many I eat :)
