Why Drive All That Way For A Race?

Over the last several weeks, when I’ve told people I’m competing in the 70.3 World Championships in Canada, the majority of the responses I’ve received have been “Wow! Why drive all that way for a race?” It’s true, it is a long ways for a race–800 plus miles! Yes, it is costly, and the details of traveling that far (and to a different country) have been time consuming. However, I’m not JUST doing a race. It is THE 70.3 World Championships. Not only is in an incredible honor to be able to participate in such a prestigious race, but it’s also an awesome experience. However, it’s not all about the race.

So why am I driving 800 miles for this race?

First and foremost, to represent my Creator well. I have been blessed with the ability to LOVE to compete, and to be able to compete well enough to qualify for this race. I believe I am able to glorify Christ by using those talents and abilities that I’ve been given by racing in this event. When people see me training and racing, I hope that I am able to reflect Christ by how I’m using the body He has given me.

Secondly, I want to represent my Country well! This is the World Championships! There will be people competing from all over the World. I want to do well for the USA! When I cross the finish line, I plan to be waiving two small flags–one American flag, and one Christian flag. :)

Thirdly, I want to represent my sponsors and my employer well. My sponsors (Hammer Nutrition and Chiropractic Associates of Centerville) have invested a lot in me this year as I’ve striven to achieve my goal of qualifying for World Championships. Now that I’ve qualified, I want to compete well for them! Also, my boss is amazing for being flexible enough for me to take time not only to train for this race, but also to travel to it! I plan to wear Cedarville gear before and after the race to show my gratitude. :) In addition, I teach several students at my job, and I hope I am able to be a good example to them of how to practice (and enjoy!) health and wellness in adult life!

So, those are just a few reasons why I’ve chosen to compete in this race even though it’s so far away! Just two more days until the big day! This will be my last post until after the race. Can’t wait to share all about it!
