Happy New Year

Happy New Year readers! We certainly hope you have enjoyed the holidays and are excited about this new year. I know I am! What are some goals/resolutions that you have for 2014? What are some races you plan to (or would like to) do?

I’ve come up with a few training/racing goals for 2014.

1) Improve my swimming form! Specifically I am working on incorporating a high elbow and a stronger “pull” in my swim stroke. Over Christmas, I read the book “Swim Speed Secrets”, and have sense purchased a “halo bench” (mentioned in the book). This bench is specifically designed to promote the high elbow technique, and also build your strength and endurance. It comes with resistance bands that you hook up to the wall and then pull them back as if you’re swimming! I just got this on Monday and haven’t tried it out yet, but I’ll let you know when I do!image

2) Speed up my bike half-iron distance time by 30 minutes. This sounds difficult for me now, but I have a MUCH better trainer than last year.image (1)

Also, my base fitness is also significantly higher that last year at this time, AND I have a better bike seat now too! The bike seat is a female-specific seat. I know it looks uncomfortable, but it is actually SUPER comfortable once you get used to it :)image

3) Eat more healthy foods. This isn’t because I want to loose weight-in fact, it’s just the opposite. I want to gain a few pounds the RIGHT way. Last season, I was not able to get the necessary calories in by eating healthy foods, so I often supplemented with ice cream, donuts, cookies, ect. This year I want to have lots of GOOD calories!

I also have my racing schedule planned out for 2014. It will be another busy year of racing, but I am so excited!

-June 1: Deer Creek State Park Olympic Triathlon (John is doing this one with me!!)

-June 22nd: Ironman 70.3 Syracuse (John, AND my older sister and her husband will do this with me)

-July 12th: Ironman 70.3 Muncie (I hope to qualify for Ironman 70.3 age group World Championships here!)

-August 10th: Ironman 70.3 Steelhead

-September 7th: Ironman 70.3 World Championships (If I qualify. If not, I plan to do the Rev3 1/2 Cedar Point)

So there you go! My goals and my race plan for 2014. Looks like it’ll be a fun and challenging year ahead! Let me know your goals/plans as well!
