Weekly Training Update: Adjusting to early mornings…

It’s Sunday! Time for my weekly training update. This week was a little rough as I was adjusting to early mornings. We got our second dog last Saturday, and I discovered that having two dogs doesn’t take up TWICE as much time as just one, it takes up THREE times as much time. :) Because of this, I had to start getting up a half hour earlier just to take the dogs out in the mornings. :) But, it’s been totally worth it! Check out my post from Friday to see how much I enjoy having them. So, here’s how my week of training went…

Sunday: I got up and ran with the dogs for about 3 miles total (Durango 2 miles, Mya 1 mile). Then in the afternoon, I had my 10k indoor bike time trial (Race Recap from that to come out this Thursday!). In short, the race was hard, but a valuable experience for me! I’ll talk more about it in my recap. :) IMG_1583

Monday: My “easy” day. All I had on the docket was lifting. I did a hard lift though! Here’s a picture of the workout. It took an hour total, but that included Kim explaining each lift to me, so probably it should have only taken 45-50 minutes.

Tuesday: It was a pretty cold morning, but I was able to convince the dogs to each run a mile with me. :) Then I did a 4 mile workout on my own to make 6 miles total. In the evening, John and I went to the pool and I did just a quick 1,600m workout.

Wednesday: I had a hard bike workout! 2 hours total, and rough on the legs which still felt dead from my time trial on Sunday! I got through it though and was happy to have accomplished it!!

Thursday: I did a 7 mile run in the morning. This time, the dogs each ran 2 miles with me–I’m getting them in shape!! I was supposed to swim in the evening, but I was exhausted, so I skipped out :/ I need to stop doing that!!

Friday: Another hard 2 hour bike workout. This actually felt harder to me than Wednesday even though it was the exact same workout. Probably because I was at the end of a hard week!

Saturday: I had to work all day at a conference my University was hosting, but I got in a quick 5 miles before heading in. The dogs each ran 2.5 miles with me. I love having running buddies!! In the evening, when I got home I ran them TOGETHER for about .25 mile :) I’m trying to train them to run together so one day I can take them at the same time.

The “run” went well at first…..then one of them got scared (Mya), and it was a struggle. Maybe we’ll try again some other day :) For now, it’s best to take the dogs one at a time!

So that was my week! I didn’t get enough swimming in. For some reason, it’s hard to drag myself to the pool after getting up early and working all day :/ Maybe I’ll start doing one morning swim a week.
