Weekly Training Update: Recovery Week

Time for my weekly training update! I had a great recovery week this week! Let me tell you all about it. First things first though; remember how I told you I had a friend running the Vermont 100 miler this weekend? Well, I just found out that she finished in under 24 hours which is an AWESOME time! Congrats, Jaime!

Alright, here’s how my week went:

Sunday: REST! The only active thing I did that day was go for a walk with the hubs! It was great!!!

Monday: I was feeling pretty energetic, so I did a T25 Dynamic Core workout in the morning. I spent the rest of the day unpacking and cleaning the entire house. Then in the evening, John and I went to the pool and I did an easy 1,000 meter swim.

Tuesday: John stayed home from work this day to hang out with me. :) We spent the entire morning weeding our gardens and making a new border for them. In the afternoon, we went out to lunch and ran some errands. It was a nice off day!

I love it!

Wednesday: I was starting to feel like I wanted to work out by this time of the week, so I did an easy 1 hour spin on the bike. I really wanted to run, but my hamstrings were pretty sore from all the weeding, so I figured I’d take it easy. :)

Thursday: First run since Muncie! I ran with two guys I work with. In hindsight, it was probably not the best idea, because I didn’t take it as easy as I should have. We cranked out 7:20 miles on our campus’ cross country course. Not hard by any means, but perhaps harder than I should have gone for an easy week. :) It was fun though! I got in around 7.5 miles.

Friday: I was really feeling like my old self, so I took my bike out for a 21 mile ride! Again, just easy (took about 1hr, 10 minutes), but it was nice to be outside on the bike again.

Unfortunately, my bike was STILL grumpy from last weekend. I couldn’t figure out what was wrong with the derailleur, so I rode it the whole time with it making noise and not shifting properly… In the evening though, John discovered that a link in my chain was partially broken! We think this probably happened during the Syracuse 70.3 race when my chain locked up on me. Basically since that race, I’d been having small issues with the shifting that got worse and worse. Now we know why! Unfortunately, I think that small defect in the chain ruined the derailleur because after John replaced the chain link, it was still unhappy. He ended up changing the whole derailleur and the new one seems to be working. Oh the never ending trial with bike maintenance!

Saturday: I did another easy 1 hour run in the morning. It was slightly rainy and overcast which is perfect in my opinion. :) In the afternoon, it was still very dreary, but I made my way to the local reservoir for an easy open water swim. I felt fine, but I COULD NOT swim straight! It was annoying me, so I got out and left after 2,000 yds. I’m going to really try and focus on technique these next few weeks so I can get my swim back  on track!

So that was my week! I ended up doing more than I originally thought I would, but every activity was in my recovery zone, so I didn’t push myself too much. Also, I only did what I WANTED to do. :) Next week it’s back to building up my workouts! T minus 7 weeks till 70.3 World Championships!

Totals for the week:

T25: 1 workout (25 minutes)

Swimming: 4,030 meters (1 hour, 22 minutes)

Biking: 2 hours, 10 minutes

Running: 15 miles (1 hour, 58 minutes)

Total Training Time: 5 hours, 55 minutes
