Weekly Training Update: Vacation!

Wow, guys, I’m sorry for my silence; the last couple weeks have been crazy! I finished up working, then spent a week cleaning out my office and going to meetings, then this past week we have been traveling as a family to show our kids some of the Eastern sites before we move out West! I have been able to get in most of my workouts the past few weeks, but I’ve just been maintaining still-not building up to anything. My goal this week (along with unpacking and doing multiple loads of laundry) is to find a goal race for the fall that I can start training toward! Anyway, for those interested, here’s what I did for workouts this week!

Sunday: We were in South Bend, IN for my brother in-law’s graduation from college so I didn’t get a formal workout in, but I did push the baby around in her stroller for about 3hrs. I figure I pushed her at least 5 miles over the day!

Monday: Before leaving our hotel to drive all day to Canada, I was able to get in an hour bike ride on the hotel bike and then a few minutes of lifting. Then we spent the day in the car, and stayed by Niagara Falls for the night!

Got in a good workout!

Tuesday: Our plan was to be at Niagara Falls all day and then drive to Syracuse to spend the night. Baby woke up super early, so I was only able to manage a quick 4 mile hill/speed interval run.

Short, but I was ok with it since I knew we'd be doing a lot of walking that day!

Our hotel was about a half mile from the falls, so we decided to walk there instead of pay for parking there. We spent the morning walking all around the Canadian side and going up the Skylon Tower to check out the view! Then after lunch, we walked back to our car and drove to the US side to walk around some more and to ride the Maid of the Mist! The kids loved it!! And I got a good workout in by pushing the stroller or wearing the baby the whole day.

Wednesday: The hotel we were in for the night didn’t have a bike, so I did the elliptical for an hour and then did a few body weight exercises. After breakfast, we hoped in the car and drove 2hrs to Alexandria Bay, NY to see the 1,000 Islands! You must visit this area; it’s so beautiful! We walked around the tourist area for a bit, then got on a tour boat that gave us a 2hr tour of the islands and took us to Heart Island to walk around Boldt Castle! Again, I spent the day pushing the stroller or wearing the baby:) Parents get a lot of exercise when taking their baby on vacation! :)

Thursday: We spent the night in Syracuse again, and planned on spending the day in Watkins Glen State Park. I got up early and ran 8 miles on the treadmill first, making sure to do several hill intervals-good warm up for the day to come! We drove about 90 minutes to the park and then walked all through the trails! It was so beautiful!! No strollers allowed, so I wore baby the whole time. Climbing endless amounts of stairs is a lot harder with a baby on the front of you! But man, she LOVED it! Both kids had a great time seeing the falls.

We ended the day seeing Taughannock Falls nearby and then headed back to Syracuse after dinner.

Friday: Baby had a fever all day Thursday and had a rough night of sleep. I had opportunities to go workout at 3:30, 4:30, 5:30, and 6, but I went back to bed every time because I didn’t want to leave the poor thing. And….I was dead tired. She finally woke for the day at 7 and we ate breakfast and hoped in the car to drive all day to get back home! Both our kids are such good road-trippers! I was pleased with how well they both did with so many hours spent in the car!
Saturday: Hubs had a breakfast date with some of his work friends, so I didn’t get my morning run in. I was super bummed too cuz guess how long baby slept on her morning nap? An hour and 45 minutes, people!!! Oh well….when hubs got home, he played with baby while I ran. I wanted to get back home to play with her though, so I only did 7.3 miles. I felt suuuuuuuper slow so I was probably better off not doing a long run.
So that was my week! Super fun! Looking forward to getting back into workouts this week!
